How long has it been this way? How long have we fled from the Darkness? Fled to the safety of our homes and well lit towns? Noone remembers when the Dark became more than just something we feared, when it became something that devoured and corrupted. But everyone knows when your lights dim and flicker you should Run from the Dark because the Dark consumes.
Run from the Dark is a roleplay game about folk horror, the things that go bump in the dark and existential dread.
Run from the Dark is set in a fictional world, where Technology from a forgotten time before the Dark is indistinguishable from the magic of hedge witches and those corrupted by the Dark.
The Dark should not be confused for gloom or darkness. While The Dark flees from the light it is not the same as an absence of light. The Dark consumes, The Dark corrupts. Little is known what the Dark is or wants. It is known the dark consumes life and flees from the light.
To picture the dark imagine a wall of jet black darkness that you cannot see beyond. Your light simply ends where the Dark begins. This is not darkness this is the Dark.
In Run from the Dark people live in villages, collectively working away the summer months preparing themselves for the coming winter. When Winter comes it brings with it sunless days and the Dark comes forth from where it hides away the summer months. From deep within the forests it spreads forth claiming the land up to the walls of the villages. The villages that prepare well hold the Dark at bay until the summer returns, those that fail to prepare do not see the sun rise again.
In Run from the Dark you play as the Light carriers, Walkers, Those that Carry the Sun. Those that go out into the Dark. Those that travel between towns and take their light with them. Those that connect towns during the gruelling months of winter months where the sun abandons the people. Crunching frozen ground underfoot as you make your way forward. You are the explorers of forests, caves and the only ones brave enough to seek out what lives in the Dark.
